Ayka Lux, made a series with the beautiful trans model Camila Ribeiro from Suprême. In collaboration with the plastic artist Nicolas Degrange, they made this 4×3 canvas in their workshop to give an almost pictorial spirit to this series and to highlight this incredible model.
Fashion photographer in Paris, Ayka Lux sees his work through the prism of pictoriality. He sees his photographs as paintings, influenced in this sense by the artistic environment in which he evolves. This photographic series is the result of a collaboration between Ayka Lux’s photographic work and the pictorial practice of the artist, Nicolas Degrange. It is together that the duo created a painting with monumental dimensions (4m x 3m) that will later become the background of the series presented. Inspired by the colorfield movement of the 50-60’s, the painting gives the photographs a palpable pictorial brilliance through a gradation of warm, enveloping and vaporous colors reminiscent of a sunset on the beaches of southern France.
For this series, Ayka Lux invited the Brazilian trans model Camila Ribeiro to become the subject of a photographic work with a bold impulse, following in the footsteps of the surrealist painter Victor Brauner. In this sense, the clothes, sometimes airy and organic, always pop and acidulous, come to melt into the iridescent background to form a painting sublimating the feminine.
